“New Jersey For Haiti” Established
NJ Community Rallies to Support Unified Relief Effort
NEW JERSEY – Service organizations, community leaders, elected officials and New Jersey’s businesses came together today to announce the establishment of “NJ for Haiti”, a concerted relief effort to aid the people of Haiti.
New Jersey for Haiti is a collection of government agencies, non-profit organizations, faith based agencies, businesses and citizens dedicated to providing relief and assistance in coordinating the outpouring of support that the citizens of New Jersey have offered to the victims of this disaster. In the coming days and hours, the organization will designate county point persons to begin local outreach.
Local New Jersey chapters of the American Red Cross and the United Way have been working to raise funds and resources to assist the people of Haiti.
Congressman Donald Payne, a strong supporter of past relief efforts, will serve as Honorary Chairman of New Jersey For Haiti and urged everyone to get involved now. “I have visited Haiti on numerous occasions and understand how important it is to provide this kind of support early. Time is a critical factor and a centralized relief effort enables us to deliver vital resources in an expeditious manner.”
Senator Raymond Lesniak, the co-chair, spoke about the call to action. “In times like this, it is important that we all stand together as a community, united in effort, energy and prayer to aid the men, women and children of Haiti in any way we can”
New Jersey For Haiti plans to provide continued relief to the effort, beginning immediately with financial assistance and channeling its collective resources to include donations of supplies and providing manpower to meet the evolving needs of the island as it recovers and rebuilds.
Information on how you can help and to make donations is attached. You can also visit www.nj4haiti.com or call 908-285-1199.
